Dr Paul Sutton, Artistic Director
Dr Paul Sutton is the founder and Artistic Director of C&T. He leads the company's artistic and educational programmes, researching and developing new applications for our applied theatre work in the UK and internationally.
This includes the creation of projects like livingnewspaper.net, stratar.net and The Dark Theatre as well as the development of online tools and services like wisdomofcrowds.info and our innovative new technology Prospero. This involves him working closely with UK schools, supporting our team of Animateurs, training teachers in classrooms and working with young people of all ages and abilities. As the C&T network grows, Paul finds himself developing new partnerships across the world: in New York City, Nairobi, Singapore, Australia and China in recent years.
Paul's expertise in drama, education and technology means he is in demand from other artists and cultural organisations. For example in 2014 he worked with Told By An Idiot, The Tricylcle Theatre, Belgrade Theatre and University of Kent.
Paul has over 25 years experience in drama education and applied theatre. He has worked as an Actor/Teacher in Theatre-in-Education, stage director and facilitator as well as a classroom drama teacher. In Higher Education he has extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. He has also worked with the BBC, British Film Institute, Arts Council England, Warwick Arts Centre and extensively with other theatres and arts organisations.
He is Co-Editor of the book Innovation, Technology and Converging Practices in Drama Education and Applied Theatre and a contributing author to Drama Education with Digital Technology. He is currently working on a number of new books in the fields of drama, theatre education, social justice and digital technology. He is Multimedia Editor of Reserach in Drama Education: The Journal of Applied Performance.
