The Living Newspaper

Citizenship, literacy and the humanities: the Living Newspaper transforms young people into 21st Century citizen journalists, bringing the news and global issues to life through documentary, drama and the internet.

The Living Newspaper turns young people into citizen journalists offering new approaches to teaching citizenship, media studies, humanities and literacy. Become drawn into the world of the livingnewspaper.net, a group of covert citizen journalists committed to telling today’s news stories and global issues from the perspectives of young people. Use drama and documentary techniques and build your own Living Newspaper website.

The livingnewspaper.net is the re-invention of the classic documentary drama form of the Living Newspaper for the internet age.  At the centre of the project is a website which introduces students to three young people – Tom, Cate and Guy.

Through a series of online videos they explain the background to the Living Newspaper and their goal: to tell the news as it is today from the perspective of young people. Students are drawn into the missions set by Tom, Cate and Guy and learn how to create short media-rich presentations that enable them to research, interpret and present the news - as they see it.
